SPEED REGULATIONS
71.01 STATE SPEED LAWS APPLICABLE | ||
The state traffic laws regulating the speed of vehicles shall be applicable upon all streets within the city, except as this traffic code, as authorized by state law, hereby declares and determines, upon the basis of an engineering and traffic investigation, that certain speed regulations shall be applicable upon specified streets or in certain areas, in which event it shall be unlawful for any person to drive a vehicle at a speed in excess of any speed so determined when signs are in place giving notice thereof. | ||
The entire municipal boundaries of the City of Auburn, Indiana is hereby declared as an urban area by definition and all said areas not marked by speed sign are controlled by state law setting forth speed limits for urban areas. | ||
71.02 SPEED IN ALLEYS | ||
Except when a special hazard exists that requires lower speed for compliance with state law, the maximum lawful speed limit in an alley shall be 15 miles per hour and no person shall drive a vehicle in an alley in excess of the limit. | ||
TURNING MOVEMENTS
71.05 AUTHORITY TO PLACE DEVICES ALTERING NORMAL COURSE FOR TURNS | ||
The City Council is authorized to place official traffic-control devices, within or adjacent to intersections, indicating the course to be traveled by vehicles turning at such intersections. The course to be traveled as so indicated may conform to, or be other than as prescribed by law. | ||
STOP AND YIELD INTERSECTIONS | |||||
71.10 INTERSECTIONS WHERE STOP OR YIELD REQUIRED | ||
The City Council is hereby authorized to determine and designate intersections where a particular hazard exists and to determine the following. |
A) | Whether vehicles shall stop at one or more entrances to any such intersection in which event it shall have erected a stop sign at every place where a stop is required. | |
B) | Whether vehicles shall yield the right-of-way to vehicles on a different street at the intersection, in which event it shall have erected a yield sign at every place where obedience thereto is required. | |
71.11 YIELD RIGHT-OF-WAY AT ALLEY EXIT | ||
The driver of a vehicle about to enter a street from an alley shall yield the right-of-way to any vehicles or pedestrians approaching on the street. |
